Porsche 911/930 Carrera Missing Voltmeter Gauge Panel

9xauto is offering an upholstered instrument panel to fit in your 911/930 center console. The panel features a one gauge receptacle as well as two .5 inch holes for the optional switch and light indicator. The panel can be glued in place or side holes can be drilled for permanent installation. The lower panel surface will protect the instruments and wires from interfering with still accessible storage space. Aluminum side handles give a "component" appearance. We highly recommend the full package, featuring a VDO voltmeter, and a switch with indicator light. Panel can be ordered with "black" or "sand" upholstered finish. Please indicate on the order.

Originally 911's did not have a voltmeter. Unlike other Porsche models, in 911's Porsche did not think it was essential for you to see the voltage fluctuation. We strongly disagree. Voltage regulators when go bad, play tricks with electrical current in your car. Your alternator light will be off, yet you will not receive any charge to your battery until the battery is dead. Another interesting symptom is overheating on high RPM due to the belt slippage. As you know, the belt drives cooling fan connected to the alternator. In this instance, the voltmeter shows drop in voltage above 2500 RPM and comes back to normal 14 volts after RPM drops. In all these cases the alternator warning light stays off.
CONCLUSSION;
Only voltage meter connected to your electrical circuits can demonstrate above symptoms, alerting you to a problem.

Many of us have replaced the original "trombone" cooler with something more sophisticated. Many replacements come with a cooling fan. Cooling fans can be controlled two ways; by thermostat or by the remote switch. After installing an electric thermostat, we noticed it was not operating the way we wanted it to. It would start and end it's operation in the times it was not warranted, unnecessarily draining the battery. The manual switch with indicator light was a good solution. Unfortunately the 911 dashboard does not have a suitable place for a switch. This panel is the solution.

How do you know if your air condition is “on” in early 911? It has to be checked by looking at the round knob switch. Sometimes, round knob brakes inside, and you no longer can tell if it is on or off. Connecting the panel light to a switch will make your life easier. The light will go “on” when the air conditioning switch is turned on. The connection to a switch is only 3 inches away. How is that for convenience?

In Japanese version of 930, Porsche installed temperature indicator warning light. It would turn “on” when your rear bumper temperature reaches 750 degrees. We can see the use of this system on the West Coast of the US. Porsche dealer can still provide a temp reading unit, and our panel will provide the place for the indicator light.
